As mesmer has not yet been revealed as a playable profession, all skills and descriptions on this page are based on observation of NPC mesmers.
Blackout: A close-range spell which Dazes the enemy, disabling skills for a short time.
Notes: Players reported enemy mesmers using Blackout frequently. The animation and touch-range resembles Blackout from Guild Wars. The description of the enemy mesmer says “Dazes”. There is still some confusion over daze, stun and blackout terminology.
Chaos Storm: A ground-targeted, area-of-effect spell, dealing damage over time. It can also inflict Blind, Chilled and Vulnerability upon foes.
Notes: Based on Chaos Storm, the Guild Wars mesmer’s only DoT AoE skill. Resembles the skill icon. Damage coincides with conditions on the POV player; Blind, Blind again (while another player gets Vulnerability), then Chilled + Vulnerability at the same time. Champion Vassar is based on the mesmer skill trainer Vassar, who grants players Chaos Storm.
Conjure Phantasm: A temporary minion which moves around the battlefield and attacks foes. Multiple copies can be present (up to 3 witnessed).
Notes: Resembles the skill icon from Guild Wars. With hexes gone, any mesmer damage-over-time needs to be visual. The exact effect of these phantasms is unknown. Also take note of the butterflies, matching “Purple Fan Lady” concept art and the Soothing Images skill from Guild Wars.
Reflecting Shield: A bubble surrounds the mesmer, reflecting projectiles, including spells, back to the source.
Notes: Mesmers are described as “reflecting projectiles”. Similar to the elementalists’ Energy Shield, with slightly different animation, and different skill effect. Could also be called Empathy or Distortion. When Champion Vassar uses it, it seems most projectiles still hits, possibly based on chance or a variation of the Shield skill.

Hey! You are actually totally awesome. I am so excited for the return of the Mesmer in all its shining, destructive, beautiful glory! And thanks be to you for informing me about all the skills that may be put into the playable version of the game :D
I am actually so excited now. I’ve been craving GW2 all year, and the release date is getting closer! :D
P.S., we should totally game when it comes out. You seem like you’d be an excellent player.
P.P.S., I am also gay. Friends for life much?
P.P.P.S., If you had to choose a second profession to play, what would it be. and why?
I’ve been keeping my distance from GW2 lately. My favourite podcast, Relics of Orr, ended, and then I heard there would only be 7 professions at GamesCom and PAX…. and now I’d have to say the PvP reveal has been underwhelming.
Yep we can definitely play together. I’m not very good at games and sports; I never care enough to try :D
Yay for gay ^^
My second profession would be engineer, because they seem to have a lot of options in combat. From turret to mine to flamethrower, healing and control. Sounds fun. I usually lean away from melee-based classes, but if warrior is done well I think I might enjoy that too.
It might be easier to say which classes I’m not interested in: ranger, thief and necromancer.
Your blog’s cute as hell!
Aw thanks
